Nick Talbot will be long missed

News

Last week we lost three musicians, Bobby Keys, Ian McLagen and Nick Talbot. The first two guys had as far as anyone could tell, survived the ‘Rock n Roll’ experience to a reasonable age. Nick Talbot was however taken from this planet far too early. Having said that though Nick in his short 37 years was undoubtedly establised a fine gentleman and an extremely talented musician and journalist.

I asked a few of the folks at Rock Club Towers for their thoughts.

"That Cecil Sharp House gig was wonderful.  He made it like his living room.  It was definitely wit that shone through, but also a very rare humility.  He was completely understated, especially given the quality - and unusualness - of his music.  Certainly he was not celebrated enough in his short lifetime".

"Outstandingly intelligent, compassionate, fascinating and witty' was how his manager Michelle Hilborne described him. The RCUK interview demonstrates that perfectly".

"Personally I'll always remember him for telling his mum off when she called out what song she wanted to hear during the encore at Cecil Sharp House".

A short time ago Nick answered some questions for us in one of the best interviews we have ever published. You can read that interview HERE

Nick, you will be long missed!

Torche 2015 Tour & New Album

News

Florida/Georgia based 'Wall of Sound' quartet Torche have their Relapse Records’ debut, Restarter  slated for a 23rd Feb on CD/LP/Deluxe 2xLP/Cassette/Digital.

The album was recorded at the band’s Miami studio, Pinecrust, with bass player Jonathan Nuñez overseeing production and Converge’s Kurt Ballou once again returning to handle mixing.

Chatting about the band’s approach to writing and recording Restarter, said: “I feel that with time you kind of expand and hopefully progress.  Hopefully this record is a good reflection of that. I feel it’s strong sonically and harder hitting than the previous record [Harmonicraft]. I’m happy with the last record, but I feel on this record, it’s just more solid song to song. You’ve got to move forward. You can’t release the same record over and over.”
