The Thermals have a new Album 'We Disappear' due in March
- News
Another rockin' return, this time it's Portland, OR’s The Thermals with their seventh full-length album, 'We Disappear' which is due out 25th March via Saddle Creek. The trio – Hutch Harris, Kathy Foster, and Westin Glass – debuted new song “Hey You,” today, have a listen here.
A pre-order of multiple formats of We Disappear – including a run of clear vinyl limited to only 400 copies – is now available via the Saddle Creek webstore. The album will be available for pre-order via iTunes tomorrow, 7th January, and will include “Hey You” as an instant download with purchase.
Produced by Chris Walla (formerly of Death Cab For Cutie), with whom the band has worked frequently, We Disappear was recorded in Portland at Kung Fu Bakery and in Seattle, WA at The Hall of Justice.
Hutch Harris talking about the record said; “Technology, love and death are the three obsessions of the record. Our privacy used to be so important to us and now everything has changed - we freely offer once private information about relationships and reveal everything about our day-to-day lives. We’re trying to preserve our life digitally so when we’re gone people won’t forget us. We’re using technology to become immortal. You can even set up Facebook and Twitter accounts to continue updating after you die! We Disappear is about how humans fight the inevitable.”
European live dates are in the pipeline for later this year.

Introducing Brooklyn-based folk rockers Paul Meadow
- News
Brooklyn-based folkies Paul Meadow share the video for "I Love This Town," the latest single from their Cheap & Easy EP, a five-song collection. Available now, the limited edition 10" vinyl celebrates "the fall of mankind", according to Paul Meadow. "'I Love This Town' was originally from a jingle called I Love {This Town}, "This Town" being a place holder for any two syllable municipality that we were pitching it to," explains band member Stirling Krusing. "Utility companies loved it. For legal reasons we shouldn't disclose any of the cities' names, but we can tell you they were all shitholes. Naturally, we came up with the idea of loving a town so much you cleanse the filth by purifying it with fire. Never one to let a good thing go, we shilled it on Paul. He ended up thinking he wrote it. "
Paul Meadow is the creation of Sunset Park, Brooklyn's Stirling Krusing and Chris Lee. "I met Chris Lee and Stirling Krusing in a drinking establishment after they lost their jobs writing jingles at a notable advertising firm," Meadow explains. "After a couple hours of drinking and discussing these matters I decided to work with 'the boys' to write songs exclusively for me."
Track Listing for this sweet EP soaked with some fine giutar is;
01. I Love this Town
02. Heart of a Dog
03. Cheap & Easy
04. Killer of Dreams
05. Devil you Know

'Cambridge Live' To Commemorate Syd Barrett
- News
Cambridge Live has announced that it plans to commemorate the life of Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett with a piece of public art that will be displayed at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, the location of his final ever live concerts.
The organisation, which runs the Cambridge Corn Exchange and Cambridge Folk Festival following a transfer from Cambridge City Council on 1st April 2015, applied to Cambridge City Council for Section 106 local devloper funding to enable a piece of public art to commemorate his last ever public perfomances, which was granted at its Community Services Scrutiny committee on 8th October 2015.
The public art piece will be commissioned in collaboration with Syd Barrett’s family who will work with Cambridge Live on the project. The piece will be unveiled in 2016 which marks both the 10th anniversary of Syd’s death as well as the 70th anniversary of his birth.
Syd Barrett played his last ever live concerts at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1972 as part of the band Stars with his final ever live appearance supporting Nektar at the venue in 1972.
Using the public art funding provided by Cambridge City Coucil, Cambridge Live plans to work with Syd’s family and the local art community to commission a piece of art to commemorate his life and work and also his association with the venue. The art, which could take the form of a painting, sculpture or installation, will be displayed for the 200,000 people who visit the venue each year to see.
Neil Jones, Operations Director for Cambridge Live said “Syd Barrett is integral to the musical heritage of the city. His contribution to the psychedelic early sound of Pink Floyd is immense and we wish to celebrate his life and work and remember the fact that he played his last ever live appearances at the Cambridge Corn Exchange”.
Carina O’ Reilley, Executive Councillor for City Centre & Public Places said “It is fitting that the life and legacy of someone as creative as Syd Barrett is remembered through a publically accessible piece of art and particularly in a place where he made his last public performance. Cambridge City Council is pleased to help enable this commemoration to the memory of the city’s most famous musical son”.
Speaking on behalf of the Barrett family Syd’s sister Rosemary Breen said “We welcome this opportunity to commemorate Roger (Syd). He was bright, funny, quirky and witty and was an artist not just in terms of ‘music’ or ‘paintings’ but in a much wider sense. We look forward to working with Cambridge Live to create a lasting memory of an inspiring man”.
