Introducing debut track 'Think Sharp Kid' by Leeds band FURR
- News
'Think Sharp Kid' is the debut song from young Leeds band, FURR. It's a storming track and a great start for this new band.
Room-mates at Leeds University, Jack Byrne (vocals/guitar) and Sam Jackson (guitar/vocals) first met studying music production and soon formed a band with Guy Read (bass) and John Roberts (drums). Originally named Humans As Ornaments the band had a solid fan base around their hometown and they played their first London shows in December 2014. A few months later they started work on their debut EP, collaborating with producers Boe Weaver at Studio Humbug.
Now with a brand new name and a new fire FURR are ready to unleash the first fruits of their labours, ‘Think Sharp Kid’ is out on 3rd June, via Riff Pop Records
A band to watch out for this year.

Punk 1976 - 78 Exhibition at The British Library, London
- News
The British Library in Euston Road London has a free exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Punk from 1976 to 78 and it's definitely worth a look. .
The exhibition explores punk's early days in the capital and reveals how its influence spread across music, fashion, print and graphic styles. There are displays of original records, tee-shirts, tickets, fanzine magazines and posters. The display of singles covers is impressive and you can hear the records on headphones.
A snippet from the display "Punk Goes Overground"
"The newly signed Sex Pistols began recording releasing their debut single ‘Anarchy in the UK’ at the end of November 1976.
The band had by now established a reputation for raucous gigs and riotous behaviour but EMI were nonetheless keen to promote the single and forthcoming album. Consequently when another EMI band Queen had to withdraw from a planned appearance on the early evening Today show the Pistols were offered as a substitute.
The band members had been drinking in the hospitality room and when goaded by the visibly uninterested interviewer, Bill Grundy, Pistols guitarist Steve Jones responded with a stream of four letter words.
The interview generated massive media uproar – this sort of language was not what was expected in a teatime magazine programme – and punk and the Pistols became notorious overnight".
There are a number of events associated with the exhibition as follows:
27th May - Me, Punk and the World: Bernard Rhodes in Conversation.
28th May – Signifying Nothing? – The Creative Revolution of Punk.
8th June – Buzzcocks: In Their Own Words.
10th June – Stories from the She Punks.
23rd June – Ezra Furman: The Velvet Underground, Punk Pioneers.
24th June – An Evening with Lohn Lydon.
4th July – Hey! Ho! Lets Go: The Day the Ramones ignited Punk.
5th July – The Sex Pistols and America.
14th July – Faber Social: Jon Savage and Viv Albertine on Punk.
9th September – Punky Reggae Party: The Story of Rock Against Racism.
