Till Deaf Do Us Party Records present A Compilation in aid of C.A.L.M Part II
- News
Available on all digital platforms and pay what you want on Bandcamp is the follow up to last year's debut compilation in aid of CALM, featuring the likes of Lonely The Brave, The Xcerts, Tellison and many more.
THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY (CALM) is a registered charity, which exists to prevent male suicide in the UK. In 2013, male suicide accounted for 78% of all suicides and was the single biggest cause of death in men aged 20 – 45 in England and Wales.
Till Deaf Do Us Party Records have launched their second fundraising initiative for the charity), with a 20 track compilation featuring a collection of artists passionate about the charity.
The aim of the compilation is not just to help funding for C.A.L.M, although every penny raised will go to help the charity's work but, also to promote the fact that mental illness is no longer a taboo, especially in men, and that people DO care and are looking out for them. All the bands involved in this compilation have a story to tell and a reason for donating a track - each one bringing an individual take on issues faced by many people every day, all of which are incredibly moving and poignant.
Jim from Cassels shared some words with Till Deaf Do Us Party Records:
"This song was written in the wake of a particularly debilitating few days of crippling anxiety and neurosis where I became too scared to leave my flat. As is often the case for people struggling with these sorts of episodes, I failed to talk to anyone or seek help in any way. I consider myself lucky that writing songs can act as a bit of a catharsis and remedy for me, however most men aren't so lucky. This is a great cause and a great charity, and&n bsp;we're really happy to be contributing this track to try and help raise some money towards it".
Murray from the Xcerts has worked alongside the charity for several years, and is a strong ambassador for the cause. He says:
"We are really delighted to be a part of the new CALM compilation. I first discovered CALM a couple of years ago when they approached me about another project i was involved with and i knew pretty much instantly that they were a charity i wanted to be involved with. The male suicide rate in the UK alone is absolutely terrifying and raising awareness for something as serious as this, is something that myself and the band will continue to do for as long as we can. CALM is a charity that does amazing work and exists to prevent young men taking their lives. Their charity and campaign is something everybody should be getting behind.”
Hauschka unveils five unheard tracks from ‘Room To Expand (Expanded)’
- News
Post-classical composer Hauschka has unveiled five out of six previously un-released exclusive tracks via Soundcloud, taken from the ‘Room to Expand’ sessions. As we approach the fifteenth anniversary of FatCat’s Records release, via 130701, the label are releasing the expanded digital and double-vinyl reissue of Hauschka’s debut album,

The special vinyl edition was released as a Record Store Day exclusive, and a digital version of the album will be released on 8th July.
Compiled by 130701’s Dave Howell over several months during the winter 0f 2005/06, the original album was drawn together from several CDs worth of material, half of which was left off of the final cut. Whilst some of this material was avaiable for future releases, this is the first time that these six additional tracks have been collected in one place and seen a physical release
130701 are also releasing a special compilation on 15th July named ‘Eleven into Fifteen’, to celebrate their fifteenth anniversary. The compilation features eleven exclusive tracks - one from each of the artists to have graced the roster over the past fifteen years, including Hauschka, Max Richter and Dustin O’Halloran (A Winged Victory For The Sullen), plus brand new signing – Vancouver based Ian William Craig, whose first 130701 album, ‘Centres’ is set to be released on July 8th this year. Say Hello to Throws
- News
Mike Lindsay and Sam Genders were members of Tunng and the pair are now re-ignitined as THROWS.
Ten years since the release of Tunng's third album Good Arrows and the last time the songwriting partnership worked together means that Throws has come togter like a breath of fresh air for both guys.
During their time apart Mike had been living in Reykjavik and Sam had moved to Sheffield so, curious what they could produce second time around; with no preconceived agenda Sam packed his suitcase and joined Mike in his Reykjavik studio, in the town’s industrial old fishing harbour, with no more intentions than catching up with his old friend.
“The whole month became a cathartic party,” tells Mike. “We talked about the challenges we were facing in life. We walked by the sea and along the city's small streets to crowded bars and cafes. We drank, laughed a lot, and danced like madmen on moonshine whilst recording whatever ideas came to us without any responsibilities other than making music, eating, and sleeping.”
The result is Throws. “One lunchtime on the second day we opened a beer to get us in the Flow, then Sam started singing in this high-pitched falsetto Northern soul warble... it was like “that’s it! That’s the sound!” recalls Mike. “From that point on we found a flavour and vice for whatever this project was going to be.”
“To make music in a place like Iceland will always leave you feeling refreshed and powerful... it’s just in the air,” Sam says. You could also say that it’s about the Icelandic company you keep – invited or otherwise.
The record features members of Reykjavik’s musical community including String Quartet "Amiina", the drumming expertise of Magnús Trygvason Eliassen, and the beautiful vocals of múm’s Sigurlaug Gísladóttir, there was also a near-guest appearance from an uninvited visitor. as Mike takes up the story:
“One day we were listening back to some mixes and I noticed someone in the live room fiddling with a synth. I asked him, "Hi, are you a friend of Axl's?” He just grunted, then walked into the mixing room and picked up the big knife we were using to cut our cheesy lunch. It became pretty apparent he was a gentleman of the sea who’d just walked in from the harbour... my Icelandic isn't great so we carried on listening to the mixes while he ate our cheese and gave approving slightly scary grunts. When we went to gently take the pretty big knife from him, he burst into action with a swift Ninja move... it was petrifying! I said, in my bad Icelandic, "Hey, let’s go have a smoke outside" and slowly took the knife, gave him a fag, stood awkwardly for a while, then edged back into the studio locking the door behind us... THROWS’ first Fan!”

Going to Download this weekend? .. The Home of Metal Needs You
- News
Established by Capsule in 2007, Home Of Metal is a project that examines the origins of Heavy Metal and its birthplace in Birmingham and the Black Country.
Delivered across fifteen major arts institutions, including a large-scale exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Home Of Metal brought together unseen artefacts, relics, memorabilia and personal stories sourced directly from the fans alongside iconic items from bands including Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Napalm Death.
Over 200 000 people attended events and activities during the summer of 2011 and it was shortlisted for a National Lottery Heritage award, for the title of Best Heritage Project.
Home of Metal is now pleased to announce that they have received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new project, to launch on Saturday 11 June at Download Festival.
Inspired by Black Sabbath’s Final world tour in 2016, Home of Metal will capture this unique moment from the perspective of the fans, working together to show the impact and legacy of the band, pioneers of the genre and to celebrate this unique, significant part of British music heritage.
Home Of Metal will explore how the music of four working class lads from Aston, Birmingham captured the hearts and minds of fans globally. A testament to their loyalty, the project will pay homage to the fan’s devotion and document the forty year relationship. Home Of Metal will work with fans, volunteers and the community to harness the power of social media, make portraits and capture and collate stories that mark this unique moment in history. The content collected will be used to develop an active online archive which will form part of a future exhibition to be launched in autumn 2017.
“An artist or band’s success can be measured by their relationship with the fans and the success of the ‘Home of Metal’ exhibition brought home just how dedicated and loyal ours are” explained Black Sabbath guitarist and founder Tony Iommi. “It’s always humbling to realise how you’ve touched people’s lives with your music, a project where fans are actively involved would be great.”
So, now calling all Black Sabbath fans, Home Of Metal needs you to make Metal history and asks as many of you as possible to photograph yourselves at Download Festival on Saturday 11 June. Show your appreciation and respect for the Godfathers of all heavy music, who will be headlining the mainstage at Download for the last time that evening and tag #homeofmetal and post via twitter and instragram to contribute to a photo archive that aims to document one of the most dedicated and passionate fan bases in the world.
To get more info, contribute to the archive, or become a volunteer go here and #homeofmetal to tag your memories of the day.
Home of Metal is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Laney Amplification, Live Nation and Team Rock.

New DM Stith Album due 29th July
- News
Having previously announced his new album Pigeonheart - out 29th July 2016 through his own Octaves / Outset Recordings, DM Stith has today shared another new track from the record, 'Sawtooth'.
Of the track, Stith says: "A lot of the songs on Pigeonheart start with or contain a list of questions. “What would I do with your love right now?”, “How could this day go wrong?” I suppose I’m asking myself as much as anyone through these songs. The songwriting part of me is willing to expose insecurities my social parts aren’t. I think, in this way, I’m seeking a sense of unification - first within myself and then with the world, and 'Sawtooth' is one of these internal dialogues."
Pigeonheart is out 29th July 2016 via Octaves / Outset Recordings and can be pre-ordered via iTunes.
