Samaris to release ‘Silkidrangar Sessions’
- News
Next week Samaris play a handful of European shows including Spot Festival and a London date at OSLO, Hackney on Tuesday 5th, May.
The band release ‘Silkidrangar Sessions’ – a companion to last year’s debut, containing re-worked tracks from the original and released a year later on the 25th May.
Performing at different times of day and sometimes playing more unusual arts & gallery spaces, the trio found themselves instinctively tailoring the songs to fit what the environment suggested. So the idea for the ‘Sessions’ album became – as singer Jófríður attests -“To try and capture the moments that happen live when we surprise each other and play around with our parts. I guess the main difference between ‘Silkidrangar’ and the ‘Sessions’ album lies within the rawness and improvisation that the sessions contain and the speediness with which they were recorded - we deliberately went into the studio with only a very loose idea of what we wanted to come out with.”

Richard Thompson announces new album 'Still' & UK Tour
- News
Guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson will release 'Still', an album of new music produced by Jeff Tweedy, on June 29, 2015 via Proper Records.
Still was recorded in a two-story rehearsal loft in Chicago over the course of just nine days with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy at the helm, backed by several longtime players from both Thompson’s and Tweedy’s bands.
Richard comments on having Jeff as producer, “It turned out be really good idea,” Jeff is musically very sympathetic. Although some of his contributions are probably rather subtle to the listener’s ear, they were really interesting and his suggestions were always very pertinent.”
“I really tried to not have any preconceived ideas,” Thompson says of working with Tweedy, “but of course you do. I tried to shove those to the back of my mind. You don’t really know until you turn up — what the studio is like, what the gear is like. It ended up being a nice unfolding of surprises.”
