Take a Bow - Dancehall

News

London trio DANCEHALL will release their debut single 'Vs and Gs' on 21 October.

'Vs and Gs' (named after its original demo title "vocals and guitars") started off as a bedroom demo written by Tim and Craig, fuelled by Polish beer from Leyton's "Food City" cornershop, before fully coming to life in the band's practice space with the final addition to the trio, drummer, Dave Keeler.

The song was recorded live by Mark Jasper at Soundsavers Studios under the constraints of the band's own 3-take rule. Lyrically, Timothy V (singer/bassist) says the song is about "the relationship (love/hate) that we have with ourselves, our patriarchs, and our shi*t lives". Lyrics reference wanting to runaway from fear, greed, "thick slick adverts", social anxiety (breathe in/breathe out: repeat") and unfulfilling work ("trade time and energy for coffee and diabetes").

DANCEHALL play:

07 October: The Amersham Arms, London
12 October: The Quadrant, Brighton
14 October: The Shacklewell Arms, London
30 October: Rough Trade 40th Anniversary - The Shacklewell Arms, London
