There has never been a time when I have come away from a Sigur ros concert feeling anything other than amazed and searching for words to describe what I have just witnessed. Friday night at the Brixton Academy was no different in this cycle of wonderment.

Now down to three original members Jón Þór Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Orri Páll Dýrason. New song "Yfirborð," starts the set as green shimmering light lands on the front netting encasing the stage. This eerie lighting with the stage bathed in dark green and silver, is quite amazing and a scene setter for what is to come.

White light as Jón Þór Birgisson’s shadow is cast high of the front netting as his bow runs over the guitar strings on Ný Batterí from Ágætis byrjun. Crowd transfixed and as ever this band will take you somewhere else for the next couple of hours.

The stage is bathed in red for a gentle slow building ‘Vaka’. We are just three songs it and already it’s an amazing show.

With little conversation between the band or band and audience, it’s all about the music and mesmeric visuals. ‘Varúð ‘ is a case in point as the video behind the band, starts to show hills in a mist, when figures appear, one by one, then they are holding lit lanterns and as the pictures change, the sights and your imagination just carry you along with the song.

It’s that attention to detail that gives Sigur ros an art form all to themselves when combining these sights with such original and unique music.

The band are on a massive world tour at the moment that ends at The End Of The Road festival on 31 August. Be There!
