Another very pleasant evening at the Junction 2, a smaller and more intimate venue than its (standing) big sister, Junction 1. The venue is well suited to the singer-songwriter genre and tonight we have two, young and old (er).

Stranded Horse is Yann Tambour, a French songwriter and very accomplished string musician. Two songs sung, whilst playing a mini self built, Kora and two on acoustic guitar. Yann’s songs are both lengthy and lyrical. Someone who has already been on the music scene for a decade, it was nice to discover his music first hand in a live setting.

 

 

 

Robyn Hitchcock and friends, cellist Jenny Adejayan and vocalist Lucy Parnell gave a delightful show on the eve of Robyn’s 60th Birthday (03 March), the next day.

 

The fifteen song main set was a very entertaining affair for the audience, slightly more challenging for the trio as Robyn explained, most songs were rehearsed in the dressing room pre gig).

 

Lot’s of songs, stories, chats and banter particularly around Robyn’s time in Cambridge back in the Seventies was great fun. Songs old and (very) new, lead to a varied evening and, a real celebration of a worthy career.

 

Towards the end Cambridge country legend Nick Barraclough made an appearance with banjo in hand follow by ex- Soft Boy’s guitarist Kimberly Rew who really added some bite to the sound.

 

An encore of  Syd Barrett’s terrapin was appropriate follow by, a five piece version of ‘End of Time’  from the new album ‘Bank’ out on 04 March, just shows there is no time for retirement just yet, thankfully.

 

A few more UK dates to come and then SXSW, you are in for a treat!
