Tell us about your band, how did you get together and how would you describe your sound for people that have not heard your music yet?
We are PAWS. We all first stood in the same room at a log cabin in the Highlands of Scotland in 2009 and then started a band. I guess we are a noisy bunch of boys that live in Glasgow that like pop music.
Your new ep is called ‘Misled Youth’ Was it for you?
In some ways I suppose it was. Playing guitar, skateboarding and other such activities took up a lot of my time. The title is more so a nod to the Zero skate video of the same title.
Back to schooldays… What was the hot music exchanged in the playground or at college?
The first cd I ever exchanged with Josh was a copy of the Test Icicles record, which is kinda cool because Rory ended up recording our first LP that comes out later this year. True story. I think he gave me "In Faceless Towns Forever" by Y'all Is Fantasy Island in return. Great swap.
Was there any inspiration from your parent’s records collection on the music you are making now?
Not so much for me, but I know that Josh and Matt's parents turned them onto some great music. So yeah, totally. When you are young you absorb a lot of the music around you so that stays a part of you forever. My Dad liked Slade....
Glasgow really seems to be buzzing with bands and music at the moment, anything in particular driving that?
Boredom
Where did the idea come from to release the ep on a limited edition cassette?
Well we have been releasing our own cassettes on the label we help run, Cath Records, so it felt natural to carry on that aesthetic for our first release with FatCat. They were happy to let us do so, which is totally awesome.
What was the thought process in signing for a label (fatcat records) rather than, take a DIY approach?
Well, we have never only labeled ourselves as a DIY band. I think we carry a lot of DIY ethic and in the past we have recorded everything and released everything ourselves.
We have always wanted to release a studio album, but I guess we have never had the opportunity. We really like the label, what they do and how they do it, so it was a no brainer. Just because you are signed to a label, doesn’t mean your DIY ethics are thrown out of the window.
How are your Social networking skills and is facebook/twitter etc an essential to music promotion today?.
I think that social networking is a vital part of music promotion these days. I try not to get too carried away with it and leave certain things down to word of mouth, which is important. It's a good medium for letting people when you are playing, where you are playing and what you have been up to since they last seen you play. It's good to get out and put up posters once in a while.
Any upcoming dates or festivals where we can get to see the band in action?
We are playing the following dates this month:
13Jun//London//Power Lunches

14Jun//Manchester//The Bay Horse
15Jun//Edinburgh//Wee Red Bar
