Matt from London shares his Top Ten for 2021
1. Mogwai- As the Love Continues
Mogwai with vocals? Yup, and 'Ritchie Sacramento' is probably the best track on here: Stuart Braithwaite's tribute to Silver Jews' Dave Berman and other musician friends lost down the 25 years Mogwai have been active. Elsewhere the classic 'quite/loud/quiet/louder' dynamics have been refined to the extent that this is comfortably the most accessible, cinematic record the band have put out so far. It deservedly won the Scottish Album of the Year award and picked up a Mercury nomination.
2. Arab Strap- As Days Get Dark
3. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah- New Fragility
4. Hannah Peel- Fir Wave
5. Low- Hey What
6. Admiral Fallow- The Idea of You
7. Damon Albarn- The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows
8. Godspeed You! Black Emperor- G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END
9. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis- Carnage
10. The Natvral- Tethers
Gig of the year:
Arab Strap- Electric Ballroom 8/9/21
