The Creep Void, a four piece from Newcastle are impressing with their new 4 track ep The Elevation of Idiocy.
The band has a vintage Goth Rock feel to it that seems to sit somewhere between The Cult and Nirvana though they are being labeled as a new-era alt-rock band.
Leading with ‘I’ll be your Masochist!’ its ‘a moody, surprisingly sensuous track that has a heavy production feel and gives vocalist Barry Appleton the chance to play the angst ridden lover. It's a grand track that builds to the inevitable all in crescendo which is honestly superb, from the outset it's got me hooked and by play two I'm pleasingly familiar with its disturbingly haunting refrain.
‘Persona of Many’, is the gig pleaser with riffs aplenty and the proof that this is no band of fools when it comes to playing to their strengths delivering hard hitting rock. This is a band that has found their formula and are not going to deviate in delivering loud and proud rock to the fans.
The ep is completed by the anthem ‘Needles to Say’ and the fantastically titled ‘When You Look Into An Abyss, The Abyss Looks Into You’ both of which continue the tub thumping rock out that began at track two.
In truth I loved it, I’m a sucker for an earnest rock band that simply deliver powerful rock tunes that you can turn up a let wash over you, the test for me is always will they play live and these guys look to be as reliable as the flow of the Tyne.
