TOY To Headline Club Attitude at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Tue 24 March
- News
Psych rockers TOY are to headline Club Attitude – an inclusive gig showcasing exemplary live music accessibility for Deaf & disabled music fans - at Islington Assembly Hall on Tuesday 24th March.
Club Attitude is promoted by Attitude is Everything, a charity set up to improve Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music. The annual event aims to raise awareness of issues faced by Deaf and disabled fans whilst demonstrating a range of positive and innovative measures that UK venues and festivals can implement to improve accessibility.
Attitude is Everything, who celebrate their 15th anniversary in 2015, believe that everyone should have the opportunity to see their favourite bands. As a result of their work, vast improvements have been made to live music accessibility and the number of disabled people attending gigs has grown to almost 4 million each year.
Suzanne Bull MBE, Chief Executive of Attitude is Everything said: “Club Attitude offers a perfect opportunity to showcase Attitude is Everything’s positive work and we are delighted to have TOY, one of this country’s most exciting young bands, headlining our event and supporting our aim for music without barriers.”
The Club Attitude line-up is completed by support slots from Brighton-based four-piece The Magic Gang, one of NME’s hot tips for 2015, and Bedford duo Hulkenburg who promise “beards and brutality, riffs and mayhem”. The night will also feature guest DJ sets, to be announced soon.
In order to demonstrate how to put on a fully accessible gig, Club Attitude provides a step-free entrance, accessible toilets, marked viewing areas, lowered bars, free tickets for Personal Assistants, with lyrics both captioned and BSL interpreted onstage.
The event is supported by Arts Council England and PRS for Music Foundation.

New Album & Tour from The Leisure Society
- News
On 13th April The Leisure Society will release their fourth album The Fine Art of Hanging via Full Time Hobby, which is wonderful news from a band who remain very close to our heart.
Nick Hemming’s touchstone of personal and honest lyrics remain and the forthcoming single 'Tall Black Cabins' can be heard below.
Of the single Nick said, "I took a visit to Hastings and I noticed several tall black cabins - these structures are used by local fishermen for drying their nets. Theirs is a small and shrinking industry, but they have a passion for their trade and keep it going, even though it's not always financially viable. We recorded the album onto analogue tape at Konk studios and mastered it at Abbey Road Studios. We wanted to make the best record we could, so despite the expense we crafted it in this way - not for money, but for the love of making it."
As for the album title 'The Fine Art Of Hanging On is a recurrent, linking theme, although this wasn't an intentional concept album," explains Nick. "It's about clinging to something - be that a relationship, a career, or life itself."
"All the way through writing the album a friend of mine was battling cancer. I reached out by sending him the rough demos. By giving him this access to the work in progress and by him giving feedback, we formed a close bond. Sadly he lost his battle, but his input and presence is there in the album."
